DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

With over 15 years of dungeon mastering experience, I’ve created custom home-brew content including a campaign setting, quest arcs, maps, and a collection of 70 magical items.

All artwork shown on this page was created by me.

CAMPAIGN SETTING

I created my homebrew campaign setting by combining elements of the League of Legends universe with the existing standard D&D setting, Forgotten Realms. My players were often D&D veterans themselves so I wanted to provide an new, unkown world, ripe for adventure.

I hand-painted the map in photoshop with 5 unique nations, a multitude of biomes, and mysterious landmarks to provoke questions and exploration.

QUEST EXAMPLE

THE FIELD TRIP

One of my favorite quests to introduce new players to Dungeons and Dragons. It’s short, simple, and provides almost all major elements that the game has to offer — roleplay, strategy, stealth, exploration, a puzzle, combat, and a dungeon!

Adventurers are hired by a magical school to recover a group of wizarding students who have gone missing after leaving on a field trip to a research station with their alchemy professor. It’s revealed that the professor went mad during the trip after coming into possession of an ancient demonic artifact, and disassembled the students, before reassembling them into horrifying long-limbed creatures.

QUEST EXAMPLE

THE PILLAR OF SOLACE

A high level quest in which the party is tasked to investigate the source of magical quakes rippling across the realm — The Pillar of Solace, an enourmous castle within a drow city deep within the underdark. An ancient purple dragon, stricken with magical illness, is mining into an ancient titan’s heart in search of a cure for her ailment. The drow city lies empty and abandoned, its denizens massacred by the dragon before being turned into undead thralls, used to mine away into the titan’s heart.

I created this quest to be experienced remotely during COVID-19, so I painted each floor of the castle for us to explore using the D&D app, Roll20. The group had a blast going through this epic dungeon crawl, before fighting a climactic boss fight against the ancient dragon.

MAPS

When D&D is played using theatre of the mind, players often have differing mental images for what the space looks like. This is usually fine during narrative moments, but can lead to friction when combat is involved. I worked to create custom maps to help align the player’s expectations.

MAGICAL ITEMS

70 magic items, each with unique mechanics, organized into a collection which you can download here. I focused on designing highly thematic items, with simple, easy-to-understand mechanics that reward player ingenuity.

Here are a few of my favorite items that I’ve designed.

Inspired from Yojimbo, from Final Fantasy X, you can feed this sword gold to gain additional effects.

A wand with a simple swapping mechanic that could come in extremely handy when used by a crafty player.

An item designed around giving players the ability to take an extended break in the middle of heated combat.

I TRIED TO MAKE MY OWN VERSION OF GWENT

I found it hilariously amazing that Gwent, a secondary mini-game within the RPG behemoth that is the Witcher 3, became so popular that some players prioritized it more than the main story. I longed to create something similar for my D&D campaign. A quick and simple game involving dice that could be used to resolve in-game conflicts, or for comedic encounters with intimidating figures. Knights of Justice is the result of my efforts. It’s a simple game that requires strategy, bluffing, and luck to win.

REFLECTION

I love Dungeons and Dragons. It has allowed me to grow as an artist, a storyteller, a friend, and a game designer. I’m able to test endless amounts of ideas within the rules of the D&D system, with instant feedback and results from players. I jump at any opportunity to introduce new players to the game and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

THANKS FOR LOOKING!
